I just picked up a copy of Dave Meerman Scott’s updated book, “The New Rules of Marketing and PR.” This is definitely something you should have in your library. Something I read today is a good reason why it’s vital that you understand how potent being online in the right way can advance your fitness career and grow your fitness business.

Here’s the passage I just read…

“The content you offer MUST have distinctive qualities, and your personality needs to show. A well executed web site, like a quality television program or film is a combination of content and delivery. But on the web, many organizations spend much more time and money on the design and delivery aspects than then do on the content itself. Don’t fall into this trap. Perfecting that critical mix of content, design, and technology is where the art comes in.”

You want your readers and followers to feel like you’re real and accessible. And you HAVE to be unique. Because if you’re not unique, you’re not interesting, you’re boring. And nobody follows a bore.

be a fitness nomad…

I must say. It’s nice to get away. I’m having a great time here in Columbus, MS. Especially now that I have half of my latte in me

At my core I’m a writer and a teacher and for the last 24 hours and the rest of today, I’m living that role with a great passion, excitement and resolve.

Next on the agenda is to finalize my slides for the Miller lecture here at 12:30 PM. Then some time watching fitness testing that MUW provides for the local community. Later this afternoon, I’m looking forward to a long walk through the neighborhood and an opportunity to spend time with my third biggest passion – photography. Remember, in my last post I placed a slide show of ALL the photos I’m taking while here. You can view that by clicking here.

For now, stay tuned to my twitter updates for more by the minute coverage and also don’t forget to read my first post in this series for the Miller lecture about why your resume is out of date, and maybe even dead!

As you know, I’ve been working like a mad man on my personal brand over the last year, and even more diligently over the last 6 months. And last week, I made another leap and it is already paying off.

Here’s the story…

I own a personal training studio in Madison, WI. If you follow me, you already know that. What you might not realize is that I do much more than work with clients to help them achieve their health and fitness goals. Of course, if you read this blog regularly, youalready know that too.

Here’s my point…

For me, 2010 is a building year, and one of the things I’m building is a bigger more well-rounded presence online. In conjunction with that, a presence that says to the world that I do more than just work as a fitness coach. This is important for many reasons which I will continue to discuss on this blog. It is also important for me professionally, because in order to move forward in my fitness career, I feel it important to communicate these changes to my clients, and to everone else in my network.

I’m excited about this journey. I have a lot more cool stuff coming down the pike. Next on the agenda is to get my new membership site launched as soon as possible. I’ll keep you posted on that.

In the mean time, I encourage you to visit my new blog site and hub for all my work. I’m proud of it for one, and secondly, it outlines in detail the wide variety of services I offer as a writer, fitness coach, and entrepreneur.

I also encourage you to consider how you might do this for YOU, YOUR business and the advancement of YOUR career. It remains vital that you develop your voice and your presence online. In the information age, you cannot ignore the importance of this, and of making sure that people can find you, learn about you, and hopefully connect with you in a way that is fulfilling, and that brings you more of the right opportunities.

Good luck!

John
