Below is a great passage about what it means to be an entrepreneur. I thought you might like it…

“The job of the entrepreneur isn’t to act prudently, to err on the side of caution. It’s to err on the side of reckless ambition. It’s to take the risk that the market allows him to take.”

What distinguishes a robust economy like ours is that it encourages ambitious people to take a flyer. Like the left back coming out of the back on a long run. Adding one additional forward who is difficult to mark, unpredictable and in many cases, unstoppable…

I’m sure you’ve experienced this. We all have. Because we are all capable of producing great ideas. You spend an afternoon (or the last 6 months) working in your private office, take a walk, and settle in to a cup of tea before you get back to work. The wind of spring rolls through your living room window, and you relish in the bloom and wonder at the same time how in the world it could ever be cold like it is in winter.

Just then, and seemingly with the breeze, an idea seeps deep into your soul and stirs that part of you that was born to be an entrepreneur. You take another sip of tea, and then race to find your pen and pad so that you can gather those thoughts before they blow away…

This is something that happens to me on a regular basis, and I love it! The chance to be creative and unique at any moment is exciting, invigorating and the stuff that life is made on. There’s only one problem…

Very often, when shared, these ideas go to die in the hands of those who cannot fully understand them. In other words, they die in the hands of the people with whom you decide to share them. You’ve experienced that right? You share your great idea and the person you’re talking to gives you that blank stare, and suddenly you’re questioning the value of something you were sure had merrit? Terrible…

My new Fitness Nomad membership site is an excellent example of this phenomenon. The idea came long ago, and has now finally manifested. The initial work of creation is complete and now the fun begins. Or so I thought…

Something seems out of place, which is what spurred this blog post and email to you today. There is no doubt that I’ve created something unique, interesting, and important for the next phase of my career, and for fellow fitness professionals The question now is whether or not you agree. Whether or not you can see it like I do.

My plan is to place my entire life’s work into the system, and then keep going. I’m planning to include every resource, tool, system, and strategy I’ve created over the last 20 years and give them to you. Actually, I’d like to charge your a little bit for the work, but I’m not going to do that.

Here’s why…

Should I charge a fee and run the risk of scaring you away? Or, probably better, give you access to most of it and use the PayPal donation option and Google Adsense to generate a little revenue. I like the latter idea better for the following reasons:

The site is still in the beta phase and it will take months yet to get it the way I truly want it. And to get the content I want in there finished

You benefit no matter what – I really like that!

I don’t get disappointed with a low number of early subscribers and then let that kill my motivation for sticking with something that I believe is really important both for me and for you

So, here’s my current offer:

Free access to most of the site so that you can ‘test-drive’ the system and provide me some feedback.

There is no catch. Really, I’m committed to making this thing as awesome as I can, and I believe that in offering you this opportunity, I’m taking a good step in that direction.

There are a couple footnotes though and here they are…

First, I will continue to charge for The Fitness Pro Public Relations membership ($97/month and not quite ready yet). This membership level is the one you will need to purchase to get the content for your fitness blog and everything else that Leigh (The NBC anchor I work with) and I are creating to help fitness pros become a local fitness celebrity in their local area.

Second, if you’re interested in licensing the fitness and nutrition content for use with your own clients, you will need to pay a monthly subscription rate of $97. And what this would allow you to do is set-up memberships for your own clients so that they could use the system as part of their work with you. More details on that coming soon…

For now, click here to take advantage of my offer and enjoy.

I look forward to this journey…

John

PS If you’re interested in the first 3-part video series I’ve created with the local news anchor I work with, click here for the details. It will provide you with ALL the inside information you need to become a local fitness celebrity in your area just like I have.

I’m blazing a trail. That’s what it feels like. And sometimes, you have to blaze that trail all by yourself with minimal help, resources and the tools that would make it go so much faster.

Why?

I have a fitness business to run and here in the Midwest and in my town, people have tightened their wallets a little. This is OK because I’m heading in multiple directions anyway.

There’s a card that I framed and it hangs just inside my office door at The Fitness Nomad studio. You can check it out sometime if you ever come for a visit. It was a card that my wife Laura gave me when I first opened the place and it’s a mantra I like to read and repeat as often as possible…

“Do not go where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” -Emmerson

One of the main reasons I’ve not posted anything else this week is that I’ve been busy blazing that trail because I’ve been working on ALL the following ALL at once. It ain’t easy, but if I’m going to get my business, my personal brand, and my income where I want it to be, a shift is paramount. And any shift as grand as this one requires a tremendous amount of work, sacrifice, and faith.

Here is the project list:

-Lead generation and marketing plan development for 2010

-Creation of a totally new and improved Nutrition Coaching Program

-Lead generation and marketing plan development, sales letter creation, etc for the new nutrition coaching program

-Client Case Management

-Management system refinement – gotta keep all those employees focused too

-The Big Turkey Card Promotion that I will roll out next week to generate cash for these slow months and also to launch the new Nutrition Coaching Program

-The Fitness Nomad Membership Site that I’ve been referring to over the last two months is almost ready to roll

-Continued work on blog content for subscribers to the FitnessProBlogger content service

-A great and simple promotion that I created for my son Carl to sell lightbulbs in the neighborhood and raise money for his school, and that I will share with you soon

-Boot Camp teaching, system refinement, and marketing push so that we can get this membership back up to at least 30 for the winter

I’m sure there are a few more things and most of this list does not include my work as Dad, Husband, and the work of simply taking care of myself and managing my own energy level.

This is what being an entrepreneur is all about. I really wouldn’t have it any other way.

More to come next week…

John
